For The Fans. By The Fans

Well I decided to show you the coolest fan made mash up/fantasy trailers.

Twisted metal
After watching this one I REALLY want to see it. This looks like typical Michael Bay action: Overly updated and not at gritty as TM: BLACK’s direction. But the maker did a fabulous job telling Calypso’s story. Even using elements from BLACK itself. Not to mention the actor is a wonderful choice. I love the ambiguity of the drivers them self’s; It truly feels like you will get to see the actual people when you cough up your nine buck. This also does not carry the curse of videogame/comic book movie. It’s not cartoony or corn ball. After you peel away the layer of ‘cheese’ you get a pretty deep, dark, character driven piece. Looking at the games 1 then 2 then 3 then 4, yes: they get cheesier and cheesier (until BLACK) but this looks like a smart film that most 18-25 year old male can enjoy.

Batman vs. The Terminator.
I just found this one on wimp.com. (which I must plug because I have found a vast array of useful and funny shit). It is beautifully done (not counting the poor sound editing.) it actually looks like a real film. The trailer itself truly tells a solid story. I caught myself having to tell my brain these were two separate franchises. I will say that by definition this, technically, is not a good example of a trailer. My only reason being that it tells you everything. Trailers are quick with their first act then spend about three quarters showing slivers of the films second act (and some third act mixed in only for quick story telling) but they leave you wanting more. Who’s going to pay to see the end when you already know what’s going to happen? All I’m saying is if was real it would cut off at about the two minute mark. So I guess my only complaint is that it was too good. With out further a due: (By the way: did any one else see some irony in this?)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Dogs/Reservoir Turtles.

If you look closely, the creator designated the ‘dogs’ voices with the according turtle and kept with it. I found this on a mash up trailer website and this was just the best. The guy put a ridiculous amount of time into this. Looking for not only if the lip-sync matched, but the blocking and action.

Scary Mary

This was the first family-gone-horror spoof trailer that started them all. It actually looks terrifying. What I think makes this especially scary is the modern editing with 30 year old film. It gives it that certain authenticity a lot of film makers strive for but hardly achieve. The fact that it was a 70’s Disney film gives it that odd color saturation

Broke Back To The Future.
I found it very tasteful, actually. This is one of my favorite franchises and poking fun is just part of the territory.
